Catalytic Converter Theft - 2nd time stolen in 4 months in Vista, CA.

The first time we had our catalytic converter stolen from our 2008 Prius, was right before Christmas, 2020... Merry Christmas, right? It was a shock and we felt violated. Extremely frustrating... We caught the event on our Ring, but it was in the dark and just out of range so it was in the "between" videos, if you're familiar (like time-lapse). We see the guy walking away with the cat, flashing his light to his getaway car - "got it." Cops told us to park in the driveway, you'll be safe.

Well, we weren't safe! Well lit, under a Ring spotlight cam, and they STILL did it. As you can see, hi there, we see you! Cops came, took a statement, assigned a detective, and have distributed the video to multiple agencies. Honestly... with everything going on over the last year, while insurance covers a lot of the bill to replace these for a lot of us, there IS a financial burden. We didn't have the money either time to handle our portion of this - it has to come from somewhere. And, in some cases, insurance decides to "total" the cars instead of replacing the part, in which case people are down a car!

Well, there will not be a third time, I can assure you that. We looked into different options, and we've addressed it.

Anyway, if you're local to San Diego, Riverside, Orange, or San Bernadino Counties and recognize either guy in the video, let me know, so I can send a message to the people assigned to the case. Would love to break one of the many cat rings. Also, if you know people with an older Prius model (around 2008), warn them to park in a safe location and protect their catalytic converter.
