So apparently this was how Andrew's life was going... standing under spotlights while people he couldn't even see properly decided what he was worth. His aunt's debts had somehow become his problem, and now here he was, getting sold off like furniture in some sketchy auction that probably wasn't even legal. The weird part was that he'd stopped feeling scared about an hour ago... now he just felt tired.
"Lot forty-seven," the auctioneer announced. "Eighteen-year-old Omega from Madagascar. Clean medical records. No family ties."
No family ties. That part was true, anyway.
"Starting bid at fifty thousand."
The numbers climbed fast. Andrew tried not to listen, tried not to think about what kind of person paid money for another human being in the year 2024.
"Five hundred thousand," a voice called from the back.
The room went completely silent.
Andrew finally looked up, squinting past the lights. A man stood there... old, maybe sixty, with silver hair and a suit that probably cost more than Andrew's entire village made in a year. His eyes were gray, cold as stone, and when they fixed on Andrew, something twisted in the boy's stomach.
"Five hundred thousand going once... twice... sold to Mr. Ashford Bennett."
