Blackstone Castle or Brynhyfryd it was a lavish 49-room mansion built in 1891 by Welsh coal magnate Lewis Thomas The Coal King, at Blackstone Hill, near Ipswich. Symbolising immense wealth with modern features like electric lights and a hydraulic lift. Ironically, the grand house was undermined by the very coal mines beneath it.
The mansion features 3 stories, a tower, a library, a billard room, 49 rooms, marble fireplaces, electric lighting, cedar joining, and a hydraulic lift added in 1901.
Ground included formal gardens, stables, and a greenhouse, making it largely self-sufficient.
After the Thomas family died out the mansion was sold in 1934.
Rumours exist that suggest this area could be haunted. Though some claim that sprites continue to roam Blackstone Hill, the ghost of the long lost castle may also haunt the summit. After the demolition of the castle Blackstone, there were many strange reports from locals who claimed to still see the great structure peering out from behind thick fog.
Does a building really have the ability to possess a ghost of its own or were these sighting able to be explained by some other means? In addition to the sighting of this ghostly castle the former occupants are also thought to have remained after death. It is said that both Lewis and his wife both haunt the area of their former home and have been sighted along the trail by many people.
What are your thoughts on it?
