대구 약령시 영남대로의 아침(봄고로 게스트하우스, 더현대 대구 인근)

부산 동래에서 출발하여 한양에 이르는 최단거리 육로였던 영남대로는 상업, 문화, 경제의 동맥 역할을 해오다 경부선이 놓인 1905년 이후 급속히 쇠퇴하면서 과거의 길이 되었다.

일본,프랑스등 1905년 이전 대구를 방문했던 초기 외국인들의 방문기에는 이들 모두가 한결 같이 이 길을 통해 영남제일문(대구읍성 남문)으로 들어 왔다고 기록을 남기고 있다.

대구읍성은 경부선이 놓이고 대구역이 세워진 후 일본인들이 북성로(대구역 옆)에 물밀듯 들어오면서 해체되었다.

영남대로의 쇠퇴와 경부선 건설, 그리고 대구읍성의 해체는 역사적 궤를 같이한다.

Morning on Yeongnam-daero

Yeongnam-daero, the shortest land route from Dongnae in Busan to Hanyang(Seoul now), served as an artery of commerce, culture, and economy, but after 1905, when the Gyeongbu Line was laid, it rapidly declined and became a road of the past.

In the visitation records of early foreigners who visited Daegu before 1905, such as Japan and France, it is recorded that all of them consistently entered Yeongnamjeilmun (the southern gate of Daegu-fortress) through this road.

Daegu fortress was dismantled when the Gyeongbu Line was laid and Daegu Station was built, and Japanese people flooded into Bukseong-ro (next to Daegu Station).

The decline of Yeongnam-daero, the construction of Gyeongbu Line, and the dismantling of Daegu fortresse share a historical trajectory.
