Pakistan is marking the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, but on the ground both women and workers are facing alarming new forms of injustice.
In Segment 1, we look at the surge in gender based violence, with over 15,000 cases reported in Punjab in just the first six months of 2025. We also examine the recent additional note by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi in the Noor Mukadam case, where he links a brutal rape and murder to the “vice” of a live-in relationship. What does this kind of victim blaming mindset inside the higher judiciary mean for women seeking justice in Pakistan, especially when laws exist but convictions remain rare?
In Segment 2, we turn to Pakistan’s migrant workers. Despite holding valid work visas, some passengers have reportedly been off-loaded at major airports in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. We hear the stories of workers who took loans for tickets, only to be stopped at the immigration counter and sent back without clear reasons. We also unpack FIA’s position, concerns about human smuggling, documentation and experience requirements, and what this confusion means for low-income workers who see overseas employment as their only lifeline.
