Roxy Music’s groundbreaking self-titled debut album will be released on 2nd February 2018 as an expanded edition including rare and unreleased music.
Hi Travis and Suzy, The mixtapes I sent to Anna were not just full of songs and hits that she would know, but also, like you have seen with the video reaction requests I have done with you both, I also wanted to introduce her to beautiful music and artists that she may not have heard before. I was very fortunate that my parents gave my brother and me an amazing musical education when we were growing up. Music was a passion of both of theirs, and they made sure to pass down this love of music to us. One special memory I have growing up would be when we would have dinner together as a family. Either my father or mother would put on some music while we had dinner, and they would tell my brother and me all about the music we were listening to. They were like an encyclopedia of musical knowledge. We became sponges for all of this knowledge, and I learned so much from them about everyone from Bach and Beethoven, to bands like the one we are going to do in this video reaction. Roxy music is one of those bands that is so incredible, but many people do not know much about them, unless you were heard about them from a friend, or happen to catch a song of theirs on the radio. they did not have major radio hits or MTV videos, were only together from 1970 -1976, and then again in 1978 - 1983, but people who knew about them were passionate about them. Their lead singer, Bryan Ferry, has such a unique and distinct voice (many critics compared his voice to David Bowie), and after Roxy Music broke up, he began an extremely successful solo career. This song, Avalon, was one of my mother's favorite songs, and when she passed away about 8 years ago, this was one of the songs that was played at her service. When I introduced Anna to this song, she immediately fell in love with this song, and it was one of her go-to songs. She even had the chance to talk with my mother before she passed, and they must have spent about an hour talking about Roxy Music. I know this may not be everyone's taste, but i think if you give it a chance, you might find that you really like it. And if you do, we can do a deep dive marathon sometime into Roxy Music and you can better understand why they are one of my all-time favorite bands. Hope you like the song. Oh, and I think the video is pretty great too.
