This is history in the making, as for the first time in over 50 years you will get to sing the old CGHS School Song.

I would like to thank Ms. Zenobia Dalal, from the bottom of my heart, for teaching me the tune of the old song ‘Alma Mater’. According to Aunty Zenobia, the old song was still sung, at times, in the 1960s though by then ‘School of Mine’ was sung for most important occasions.

Aunty Zenobia and Aunty Gulistan, I have varied the tune a bit (and added my own interpretation) so the 1st verse and 4th verse are to the same tune while the chorus, vs 2 and vs 3 are the same. This may not be exactly the way you’ll remember it, but I thought it was a pity to only sing vs1 in a different tune. I hope you don’t mind me taking this liberty! 🙏🏽

I dedicate this song to all my Senior CGHS Sisters who remember singing ‘Alma Mater’ and to all my other CGHS Sisters who have never heard it before or possibly did not even know there was an earlier school song!!!!

On this our Founder’s Day 2020, we the daughters of Calcutta Girls’ High School, give thanks for the founders who established our ‘Alma Mater’.

We thank God for
our principals, our teachers, our office staff, our support staff and our students both past & present🙏🏽

May we CGHS Daughters keep our school banner flying high and may we never forget our motto Deus et Humanitas🙏🏽 (God and Humanity)

Today, I record/film the old school song for the first time to celebrate Founder’s Day 2020! I’ve tried to look like what I used to look like over 20 years ago! I’ve outgrown my school uniform but I’ve cherished some of my badges and my school sash! I know I may seem a bit ‘cracked’ but it was very special ‘dressing up’ for the occasion and to record the next few videos. Nostalgia and memories... that’s what this video is made of!

This is not a hymn, a chorus, a country folk song, a pop song or even a patriotic song. Yet to those of us, who are/were a part of the CGHS Family, this was and may well become a ‘special’, ‘unforgettable’ song which will also be dear to our hearts just as ‘School of Mine’ is!
