Parshe macher jhal is a Bengali style fish curry recipe. Its also called shorshe posto diye Parshe macher tel jhal recipe as its made with mustard paste and posto (poppy seeds paste). This Parshe macher recipe is a very famous Bengali dish which is usually served with steamed rice in most Bengali home. In English Parshe Fish is called the Flathead Grey Mullet Fish. Macher Jhal means spicy fish curry so this dish is a bit spicy as I have used green chilies in this dish. Hope you all like this Bengali fish curry recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

1) Parshe fish (flathead grey mullet fish) 500 grams
2) 1/4 teaspoon nigella seeds
3) 2 teaspoon of onion paste
4) 1 teaspoon ginger powder (can use ginger paste as well)
5) 1 teaspoon green chili paste
6) 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder for gravy and 1/2 teaspoon for fish marinate
7) 1 teaspoon red chili powder
8) salt to taste for gravy and 1/2 teaspoon for fish marinate
9) 3 tablespoon mustard and poppy seed paste
10) 1 tomato paste
11) water as needed
12) mustard oil
13) 2 whole green chilies
14) chopped coriander leaves for garnish
TIPS:
1) If you are using just the mustard paste then add some salt while making the paste and cool the paste in a fridge for a day and then use it as it will help reduce the bitterness of the mustard.
2) For mustard and poppy seed paste take 2 tablespoon mustard and 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (posto) and put a pinch of salt while making the paste.
3) Don't overcook the fish as its very delicate and might break and fall apart.
4) check salt before adding in the gravy as we add some salt while making the mustard paste.
