Hand Embroidery: Floral Goldwork

Hand embroidery all in gold thread and cord on transparent organza fabric, using Couching Stitch, Split Stitch and French Knots.

Take Note: Goldwork on organza, requires a more advanced skill level because:

1. You need to ensure that you start and end off threads invisibly or it will show on the front. You also cannot 'carry' your thread at the back to the next section you want to work on, as you will see it, so you need to end off and restart the same thread a lot more often than usual, which takes time, patience and skill to make it completely invisible.

2. Working with certain types of gold thread (like the type I used for the stems and branches) can be frustrating, as it is slippery, doesn't stay put, knots easily and is prone to leaving loops when it kinks, instead of pulling through fully. Other types (like the type I used for the flower blossoms) will start to unravel as you work with it, so you need to work gently with this, as all gold threads are delicate.

3. The main aim is to make the back as 'perfect' as the front.
