Verbs of Motion in Russian (Quick Guide)
Russian has two types of verbs of motion:
➡️ Unidirectional verbs
Used for movement in one direction, right now, or toward a specific goal.
Examples from the song:
I am going to the mountains (иду)
I am sailing to new countries (плыву)
Where are you flying? (летишь)
👉 Think: one trip, one direction, one moment
🔄 Multidirectional verbs
Used for movement in general, repeated actions, or a way of life.
Examples from the song:
I fly in the sky (летаю)
I sail on a yacht (плаваю)
👉 Think: no single destination — movement as a habit
Я устал стоять на месте — мне нужен путь
I’m tired of standing still — I need a path.
Я открываю карту, и вижу мой маршрут
I open the map and see my route.
Я иду в горы, к вершинам иду
I am going to the mountains, heading to the peaks.
Я плыву в море, в новые страны плыву
I am sailing into the sea, sailing to new countries.
Если нет дома меня —
