Be prepared
Be Adaptable
Do it anyways
I know for many people that have found my channel have an interest in planning their own Deadhorse adventure. I’ve received lots of questions about how I planned a budget for this trip as well as food and lodging recommendations.
When it comes to budget I always over plan. But I’m very frugal while traveling too. Please keep in mind this is crucial to me constantly traveling and may be more conservative than many like to travel. I have our National Park Pass so I do not have to plan for those additional activities costs but typically find a few miscellaneous costs for some side quests I decide to do.
Budget
Normal planning • Projected • Actual
Fuel - $.10/mile • $.13i • $.11
Lodging - $100/night • $125 • $112
Food - $30/day • $35 • $29
Projected costs $5535
Actual total costs $4313
My favorite food stops typically are your small town joints with something unique or particularly delicious. I don’t stop all that often for a full meal, generally only one seated meal each day. I definitely eat but not a full restaurant majority of the day. I use granola bars, pop tarts, fruit, nuts, and other snacks as majority of my breakfasts if the hotels do not offer a free breakfast. And for lunch I like to bring bread or tortillas and peanut butter to make sandwiches many times. This keeps the food costs effective and allow me to still enjoy spots but keep regularly fueled. Coffee every day is non negotiable.
