Behind the former Harry Gant Steakhouse in Taylorsville NC is Larry Pollard's LP Gear shop and this epic go kart track covered in kudzu. Larry grew up racing on Canada's west coast before moving to NC in 1981 to work for Richard Childress, eventually having his own Busch Grand National driving career after a stint as Richard Petty's crew chief. Larry is the first Canadian to win a BGN series race and found himself in the Skoal Bandit 7 car. In 1988 he suffered a near fatal accident at Dover and founded his LP Gear service and the Pollard Raceway kart track shortly after recovering. Today Larry and his son Chase Pollard are most known for their work building transmissions and rear ends for short track racing. Chase Pollard is Harry Gant's grandson and the compound is found on the appropriately named Bandit street.
