🚆 4K Cargo cab ride on a Swiss sugar beet train (Frauenfeld - Affoltern a. A | Cab Ride Switzerland)

Autumn has arrived in Switzerland, which means: Sugar beet season!

We start in Frauenfeld, a small city in northeastern Switzerland and home to one of only two sugar refineries in the country. Today, our task is to deliver an empty freight train from the refinery out into the countryside. The destination: Affoltern am Albis, where freshly harvested sugar beets are waiting to be loaded.

We start our journey right next to the refinery, accompanied by the distinct scent of sugar beets, reminiscent of sweetened popcorn. Since we are on a private siding, we first have to shunt our train to the next station, Islikon. After a few passenger trains have passed, our slot is finally here and we set off onto the main line that takes us through the landscapes of Thurgau and Zürich. As we approach the city of Zürich, traffic increases and our train finds its rhythm among the busy regional and intercity services. Once we've left the city behind us, the scenery opens up again, as we enter more rural areas. Soon, we reach Affoltern a. A., where the sun comes out and greets us through the broken autumn fog.

Last but not least, we are working with the legendary workhorse that is the Re 620. Swiss-made and once the most powerful Swiss locomotive, it remains reliable and powerful as ever. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
