Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) Festival - Oakland Cemetery Atlanta - Honoring Life From The Sky

I’m excited to share this aerial film capturing the vibrant Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) Festival at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia that took place on November 2nd 2025. This event beautifully blends tradition, art, and community — and I had the honor of documenting it from the sky.

Throughout the day, I filmed a variety of scenes that showcased the festival’s energy and spirit — from colorful vendor booths and handcrafted altars to live stage performances and families celebrating together. Each shot was designed to reflect both the cultural richness of the event and the emotional atmosphere that makes this annual gathering so special.

What made this project even more unique was the setting. Oakland Cemetery, one of Atlanta’s most historic landmarks, provided a powerful backdrop — a place where remembrance and celebration intersect. I also incorporated sweeping shots of the Atlanta skyline, connecting the heritage of the past with the rhythm of the modern city beyond the gates.

All footage was captured in 4K using my Mavic 3 Pro and edited with a focus on cinematic storytelling — balancing movement, light, and perspective to convey the emotion behind each moment. The Day of the Dead Festival is more than an event — it’s a living tribute to loved ones who have passed and a reminder of how art and culture keep their memories alive. I hope this video captures even a fraction of that beauty.

On a side note, I did record audio on the ground with a field recorder, because drones do not capture audio. However, the audio captured was mostly songs played during stage performances -- many are popular Mexican songs. The tracks were getting flagged for copyright on several websites, so I decided to pull the songs and use some commercial free-use Mexican music instead.
