Solo piano arrangement of I Heard It Through The Grapevine, a 1967 hit single for Marvin Gaye which eventually reached Number One in the US in 1968 and the UK in 1969. The song is in the key of E flat minor (mainly using the black notes!) and was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. The original version also features a Wurlitzer electric piano, played by Motown's in-house pianist Johnny Griffith from the Funk Brothers. I've tried to mix Griffith's comping with Gaye's vocal line, along with elements of James Jamerson's bassline, Dennis Coffey's guitar and Paul Riser's string arrangement.
