STORYLINE:
The UK minister for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Commonwealth, and the United Nations met the Egyptian foreign minister and the Arab League Secretary-General in Cairo on Thursday to discuss the crisis in Gaza.

The UK's Lord Tariq Ahmad first met Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry at the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the discussions focused extensively on the Gaza crisis and the consultation between the two countries to stop the ongoing war.

Abu Zeid explained said the ministers also discussed international efforts to enhance the access of humanitarian aid through all land routes, airdrops and the sea corridor initiative, and the joint efforts of the two countries to enhance the flow of aid to Gaza.

Later on Thursday, Lord Ahmad met the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
