Theorems of Moment of Inertia : Parallel Axis Theorem & Perpendicular Axis Theorem

Theorems of Moment of inertia: These theorems help us to calculate the M.I. of a body about a given axis if M.I. of the body is given about some other axis. There are two theorems of Moment of inertia.
Parallel Axis Theorem: It states that M.I. of a rigid body about any axis is equal to the sum of its M.I. about a parallel axis through its centre of mass and the product of the mass of the body and square of the perpendicular distance between two axes.
M.I. of a body mass M about the axis YY’ is given by
I = I_CM + MR2
This shows that MI of any body will be least about an axis
Which is passing through its Centre of mass of the body.
Perpendicular Axis Theorem: It states that the M.I. of a plane lamina about an axis perpendicular to its plane is equal to the sum of the M.I. of lamina about any two mutually perpendicular axes in its plane and intersecting each other at the point, where the perpendicular axis passes through it.
M.I. of the plane lamina about the z-axis
I_Z = I_X + I_Y
Where I_X and I_Y are M.I. of lamina about x and y axes respectively
This theorem is applicable to only two-dimensional plane lamina.
