Noise in computer graphics is a "procedural" texture. That means, it can be created and modified with a more or less simple mathematical function. A file texture e. g. is not procedural.
Maya has had its own Noise texture since version 1. The Noise module in Arnold is much more advanced and modern – and a pleasure to tweak.
In this tutorial I apply the "aiNoise" as a bump map. That means: The Noise creates irregularities (fake hills and valleys) on that surface. it looks great!
