They call it “learning.” We say it’s “FUN!”
Welcome to Fun Mandarin 玩中文®️!
大家好! I'm Bryan! 😊
的、地、得 are confusing because they are all 多音字 (duō yīn zì), with different pronunciations and meanings. What makes them even trickier is that when they are used as grammatical particles, they all sound the same. This makes it easy to mix them up in writing, even for native Mandarin speakers!
In this episode, I will share some practical tips and examples through a fun game called “Guess Who.” Follow along, you'll master these three naturally, without memorizing grammar rules!

📝Notes:
1. The captions in the video are in both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Traditional characters are highlighted with a blue background, while simplified characters are highlighted in green. If a character is not highlighted, it means it is the same in both traditional and simplified Chinese.
2. 的、地、得 are all pronounced “de” when used as grammatical particles, but each has different pronunciations depending on its meaning. This episode focuses on their grammar functions, so they are all pronounced “de” throughout.
