This video will briefly explain what is vendor or supplier in SAP as well as Difference between Vendor ( ECC ) and Supplier (S/4 HANA) -
The vendor master data describes the relationship between the vendor and company. The initial relationship of the vendor is with the purchasing dept, but similar to material master - unless all views related with all department completed the master data is not complete. In a similar way , even if the initial relationship is with purchasing dept, still all details need to complete from accounting side to complete the vendor master.
Vendor is the traditional term used in SAP ERP systems like SAP ECC.
Supplier is the newer term introduced with SAP S/4HANA and SAP MDG (Master Data Governance).
SAP introduced the Business Partner (BP) concept in S/4HANA to unify the management of master data for customers, vendors, and other partners. Under this model:
A Supplier is a Business Partner with the Supplier role.
The term Vendor still exists in backend tables and legacy systems, but Supplier is the preferred term in modern SAP UI and documentation.
