The Stechford to Aston Bridge 13 (SAS13) bridge replacement project is situated near Birmingham City Centre and is an enabler for HS2 on behalf of Network Rail. The team is demolishing eight spans of an existing nine-span viaduct and replacing it with a new single span bridge.
18 self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) will be used to move the new 2,600 tonne bridge into position. Each SPMT has 12 axles, which means 216 axles and 432 wheels will be used to move the bridge from its fabrication compound adjacent to the track to its final position.
