Freed Palestinian shares painful journey of survival from Israeli jail

Less than a month after his release, Mahmoud Abou Foul recounts ten months of living under constant torture and ill-treatment at the hands of Israeli prison authorities - abuse so severe that it caused him to lose his sight.

“I lost my eyesight because of the beating and torture. The hardest thing was losing my vision after the beatings I was subjected to, be it from soldiers or during interrogations, everywhere. I was beaten wherever I went,” says Mahmoud.

The 28-year-old was arrested from Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, where he was seeking refuge. He now finds himself living in a tent with his family, with no access to medical care to try and regain his eyesight.
