SALOMÉ - Making-of répétitions (Behind the scenes with english subtitles)

Voici le making-of des répétitions du spectacle SALOMÉ, pièce d’Oscar Wilde écrite en français, méconnue mais qui possède une puissance dramatique exceptionnelle. Longtemps interdite, il semble qu’elle le soit toujours, en France du moins, à ceux qui souhaitent la monter intégralement, sans la couper, ni réduire la portée de ses enjeux.

En effet, nous avons tourné ce petit film au débotté, à l’issue d’une première période de répétitions en novembre 2018, aucun théâtre parisien ne voulant finalement accueillir ne serait-ce qu’une représentation promotionnelle de ce spectacle (même en louant la salle).
De même, avec ce court making-of et un dossier complet, nous avons démarché durant deux ans auprès de nombreux producteurs et directeurs de théâtres, en vain (la plupart des professionnels parisiens n’ont même pas répondu).

Persuadés qu’il existe un décalage entre la frilosité des instances culturelles et la curiosité d’un public plus large, nous avons mis ce délai à profit pour finaliser tous les costumes et les accessoires du spectacle.

De tout coeur, nous remercions les contributeurs, amis et soutiens dont l’aide précieuse a permis que ce premier travail voie le jour - et nous espérons que ce projet, sur scène ou à l’écran, en France ou ailleurs, puisse un jour donner sa pleine mesure.

This is a behind-the-scenes documentary about our production of Oscar Wilde’s SALOMÉ. The play, written in french, is relatively unknown (in France), but possesses exceptional dramatic intensity.
It was banned for a long time, and it seems that it still is, in France at least, for those who want to put on this play without cutting it or minimalizing what’s at stake.

We actually shot this little film at the last minute, after a first period of rehearsals around November 2018, because no theatre in Paris wanted to welcome even one promotional performance of this production (although we were prepared to rent the venue for the evening).
Even so, with this brief behind-the scenes documentary and a complete presentation program, we tried in vain for two years to have many producers and theatre owners accept to produce or accept the show, all in vain (most of these « professionals » - strange as it may sound to Anglo-Saxons readers - never bothered to answer or invite us for an audition.)

Despite these obstacles, we remain convinced that there is a gap between the reluctance of french cultural decision-makers et the curiosity of a wider audience, so we took advantage of this delay to finalize all the costumes and props of the show.

We wholeheartedly thank all the contributors, friends and supporters whose precious help allowed this first work to come to life - and we hope that this project, on stage or on screen, in France or elsewhere, can one day deliver its full potential.
