After leaving the Urusei Yatsura franchise in 1984, Mamarou Oshii wanted to branch out and make the kind of anime he wanted to make. He ended up making one of the most experimental, challenging and deliberately slow-paced animations to have ever come out of the 1980s. This is Angel's Egg.
