So stoked to finally post this... it's been awhile in the making! A Heavy Metal rendition of one of my favorite ‪@HansZimmer‬ pieces, "DREAM IS COLLAPSING", from the 2010 film INCEPTION 🤘🏼! #HansZimmer #Inception

It all started over a year ago when I decided to write some drum parts to the original piece, thinking it might make for a cool drum video. The parts turned out OK, but it just felt like there wasn't a huge overall impact. The original film score features piano, strings, brass instruments, etc... trying to overlay fairly intense (& stylistically quite metal) drum parts just didn't feel right to me. I was about to scrap the idea altogether, but remembered that my friend Aaron Smith (engineer/producer & guitarist of 7Horns7Eyes) also shares my affinity for Hans Zimmer. So I sent him my initial ideas, & that was it!

Well.... sort of. What I didn't expect was just how sick Aaron would make it. I massively respect & appreciate Aaron's ideas as a composer as well, & that includes his drum compositions. For a non-drummer, he has really unique (& SICK!) ideas. So in addition to being fully responsible for the INCREDIBLY sick guitar (in fact, all other instrumentation), the drum parts are also a total amalgamation of BOTH of our ideas!

Couple quick examples... the entire ending with the meter change on the china... 100% Aaron's idea. And it's SO sick! But then the entire mid-section-build, with the drastic tempo changes, were all my ideas (mapped to the original score, btw! Which wasn't done to a click. But I think the mapping I created works quite well!).

Those are just a couple examples, but overall - it really is just a total combination of both of our drum ideas. My POINT is: Aaron writes SICK drums too, & his contributions on that front brought it all together. He took my initial MIDI programming, recomposed/combined various parts, recorded guitar, did the mix (!)... seriously made it all so sick. It wouldn't have been possible without him! I mean, ya'll. Hans Zimmer rules, & I really love this piece specifically. So yeah. This whole thing made me STOKED, & I'm so glad Aaron shares my love for this kinda thing 🤣🤘🏼. We also procured a cover license, so you can stream this cover on all platforms (click the links at the top of this description for Spotify/AppleMusic!).

One more quick shoutout to Rob Walden. Originally, just for the sake of thumbnails and social posting, I tried recreating some of the original Inception artwork using some AI generators. But Aaron & I wanted to do something a bit more special, sort of a nod to the original movie flier from back then. We hired Rob & he made us a super cool flier, very much along those lines. But instead of the actors from the movie standing in the street, there's a drum kit. & it says "RUDCEPTION" instead of "INCEPTION" (along with some other funny text) 🤣. The whole thing was Aaron's idea, but Rob helped bring it to life. The art itself isn't really present here - even in the thumbnails, I ended up still using some of the AI artwork (not because I like it better, but just because it was a bit more square & fit better). Anyway ya'll: All-around, I was just super stoked on this. I mean, the drum video itself - for sure stoked on how it turned out (which I'm not always, Haha). But I'm even more stoked that we were able to get a cover license for it, & put it out on streaming platforms, too. The mix there is slightly different btw - a bit more rounded. So definitely check it out there, too!
