Diving for Discoveries: Uncovering Novel Bacteria in Corsica’s Seagrass Meadows

In June 2025, scientists and scientific divers teamed up for an expedition to the mediterranean seagrass meadows in the South of Corsica. Lead by Prof. Christian Jogler, they collected samples to isolate and cultivate novel bacteria from the seagrass microbiome and surrounding sediment. Currently, the samples are processed in his laboratory for Microbial Interactions at the Institute of Microbiology at the University of Jena, where they will yield novel bacteria and hopefully novel, useful natural products in the future.
