Here's a series of tests with the Hot Mod v2 Evo to see what effect it has on my JCM800 clone from Modulus Amplification (https://modulusamplification.com). I also tried 12AT7 and 12AX7 tunes in the Hot Mod to see what difference it makes to the sound, as well as comparing with the stock amp.
0:00 Introduction
2:25 Demo - Hot Mod with 12AX7 high gain
3:30 Demo - Hot Mod with 12AT7 high gain
4:37 Demo - Stock amp boosted (TS9)
5:42 Comparisons and isolated guitars
7:46 Outro
You can get details of the Hot Mod from the Legendary Tones website at https://legendarytones.com.
Guitars used are 1981 Gibson Les Paul Custom and 2022 Charvel Joe Duplantier Signature Pro-Mod San Dimas. The amp is going into Cubase via a Two Notes Torpedo Reload where IRs are being used in the Two Notes Wall of Sound plug-in.
The IRs used are from OwnHammer. The Gibson is going through the “OH 412 FMAN M25B+V30B OH1-03” IR from the 412 FMAN 6-Pack Bundle which is based on a Friedman BE-412 4x12 cabinet. The Charvel is going through the “OH 412 RECT C90+V60 OH1-03” IR from the 412 RECTO 6-Pack Bundle which is based on a Mesa Boogie Standard/Oversized straight 4x12 cabinet.
As mentioned in the video I kept the bass cut switch on the Hot Mod in the cut position. In the other position the sound was just flabby, and I wanted to keep the video reasonably short.
