Alorna Fort, also known as Halarn Fort, is a historic fort that sits on the banks of the Chapora River in North Goa, offering stunning views of the river and the surrounding lush greenery. Positioned on the right bank of the river, the fort served as the 18th-century border between Goa and Sawantwadi. It was built before the Portuguese occupation, captured from the Bhonsles in 1746, and subsequently rebuilt and renamed Santa Cruz de Alorna. In 1761, it once again came under Bhonsle control. Later, in 1781, the fort was captured by Dom Frederico Guilhermo de Souza. Strategically located in the northeastern corner of Pernem, the fort originally featured a deep moat and four bastions.
