There are only two main causes of achilles tendon pain: when there's a rip or tear, and when there is not.
This means that you can have even disabling pain in/on an achilles tendon with NO actual injury.
If you don't have an achilles rupture full or partial, and the tendon hurts, then it's 100% certain that the tendon itself is not the problem. The pain is just a symptom of a bigger problem elsewhere.
