On the occasion of Night in the Museum: Ryan Gander Curates the Arts Council Collection, Ryan Gander discusses the exhibition and his wider practice with the curator and writer, Francesco Manacorda at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 14 July 2016.
Ryan Gander has achieved international recognition for a prolific and diverse body of work embracing a vast range of media, from sculpture and installation, to books and games, even the attempt to introduce a new word and the creation of a unique range of sportswear. Gander has shown internationally, most recently as part of the British Art Show 8, and he has been the subject of high profile solo exhibitions including Make every show like it's your last, which opened at Manchester City Art Gallery, UK and toured to Derry, Linz, Vancouver and Aspen. His works are included in major national and international collections, including the Tate Collection, London, the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff and MacBA, Barcelona.
Francesco Manacorda is Artistic Director at Tate Liverpool and co-curator of the Liverpool Biennial 2016. In 2013 he was a member of the International Jury for the 55th Exhibition at la Biennale di Venezia. From 2010 to 2012 he was Director of Artissima in Turin, and between 2007 and 2009 was Curator at Barbican Art Gallery, London, where he realised the large-scale Martian Museum of Terrestrial Art (2008) and Radical Nature (2009). In 2007 he curated Venetian, Atmospheric, Tobias Putrih, the Slovenian Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale, and in 2009 Save Yourself, Francis Upritchard, the New Zealand Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale.
