Hand Lettering Practice

After being away from the brush for a while I like to brush up my muscle memory before beginning a job. This is a video of basic brush stroke practice and a casual alphabet that might be used say on a casual chalkboard (instead of using chalk markers.) Did you ever wonder why artists starve? Because there is a $300G (gazillion dollar) industry that will sell you anything and everything that will make “your art so much better.” There are countless videos of hand lettering with markers all over the internet, all you gotta do is go buy the stuff… right? (You’re still going to have to practice, you know.) I’ve even seen confessions from these same folks saying how many pads of paper, markers and other consumables they’ve gone through (that means bought) to practice on. If that works for you, great. I celebrate your journey and your successes. BUT this approach never worked well for me.

I make no apologies for being an advocate of NOT STARVING as an artist. I don’t mind spending money but I need a good value for the money I do spend.
