Menyhárt doesn’t really like prolonged feints, especially in a duel, because they make it easier to double. Instead he likes them to be as quick as possible and to the arm or hand. He also gives some different ways to trap the opponent without feints by using what many other masters call invitations. Move your blade and arm out of alignment to bait an attack that you know you can readily parry riposte. You can also make a large preparation to attack in order to bait out a pre-emptive strike from your opponent so you can make your own parry riposte. Menyhárt loves a good parry riposte.
For those of you wondering where the signature Hungarian back edge play has been the whole book, it is in the ripostes! Using the back edge makes riposting back into the same line as the cut you just parried extremely easy. Try it out, it’s fun.
