In the last two months, the countries around Rhodesia
have been pressuring Ian Smith to settle with
Rhodesia's Africans. On the surface, it looks like a
sudden new initiative to end the 9-year old illegal
regime. But the underlying reasons are to be found in
the political and economic changes that have occurred
in southern Africa in the last decade. This report
examines those changes - in South Africa, Portuguese
Africa and Rhodesia itself.
