Onshore Power Supply for Container Vessels
Reduction of emissions in ports
The emissions caused in the area of ports represent a growing problem because of the increasing capacities at the ports.
To maintain the operability of a ship while in the harbour, the necessary power is normally generated by means of auxiliary diesel and generators while the main engine is switched off. In the future, the power supply for ships by means of onshore power supply units will replace the diesel-powered vessel generators
to a large extent.
The introduction of emission standards and environmental regulations in general are also accelerating this development.
We offer systems and system components for the feeding of onshore power into the on-board power grid and in doing so, make our contribution to reduce the emissions of air pollutants, noise and carbon dioxide in the area of ports.
Onshore power supply via container system
The supply of onshore power for container vessels is implemented by installing a 40 ft. HC-container in the bottom storage row. The installation height can be up to approx. 25 m above the quay wall.
The system consists of a spiral cable reel with slip ring assembly and fibre optic rotary connector including the drives for the reel and the extension system for the roller conveyor. Operation is effected by using a radio remote control unit.
