They say that the human mind at birth is a clean slate, devoid of any innate ideas, a blank canvas upon which nature and nurture battle for supremacy.
The Word says different – it says that before Lanre Oluseye was birthed, God watched him as he was formed in utter seclusion, woven together in the dark of the womb, and ensured that he was formulated with just the right amount of panache –
a dash of excellence,
two dollops of passion,
three scoops of fatherhood and
four spoonfuls of pastoral zest.

Precept upon precept, line upon line, muscle upon bone, structure upon foundation, streams through deserts, valleys into mountains, iron sharpening iron, he was built into God’s glorious temple.

Out of darkness, he arose, a shining light, God’s threshing instrument, a holy nation, a royal priesthood, called to declare the praises of God who called him out of darkness into His marvellous light.

Lanre overcame - by the blood of the lamb and the powerful word of his testimony
He grew in strength and in stature
Where word was required he spoke it with power, bringing good news to all who thirsted
Where prophecy was sought he was a conduit of truth, proclaiming freedom for captives
Where leadership was lacking, he shouldered the burden, rebuilding ancient ruins after the mould of Nehemiah.

He is a shoulder to cry on
A hand to uplift
A father to follow
A mentor to guide
A brother, a friend, an icon, a shepherd.

And now, nations come to his light,
Kings to the brightness of his rising.
He rests in the finished work of Christ, a priest of the most high.
Draped in a clothing of salvation and in the robe of righteousness.
