The HSH Feeding Program was the first official project of our organization, and it started in Makongeni preschool in January 2016. The project was founded from a conversation with preschool teachers, when they talked about children’s concentration difficulties and absences caused by stomach aches.
We investigated the matter, and the cause of the problems was revealed to be hunger. Some preschoolers walk a long way to school on an empty stomach, because many families cannot afford to provide breakfast at home. Malnutrition among preschoolers is common and completing the school day on an empty stomach is a tough task.
HSH Feeding Program offers Preschoolers porridge every school day. As a result of the project, the children’s ability to concentrate and cope has improved significantly, and the project has received a lot of positive feedback from both teachers and parents.
In 2021, we expanded our porridge program to also cover preschoolers in Gazi village.
In 2024, the project has been expanded again and now 810 primary school children are also enjoy morning porridge in Makongeni.
