Recorded during a beautiful and intimate house concert in Dijon, this performance of “Why” pays tribute to one of the founding figures of jazz: Jelly Roll Morton.
Composed in the 1920s, Why is a blues that sits at the crossroads of New Orleans tradition and early swing. Morton recorded several versions of the tune, and it later became part of the classic repertoire of both traditional jazz and swing musicians.
For this special house concert, we brought it into a small living room setting — close, acoustic, and full of atmosphere. I love Adrian's vocals.
