Due to popular demand from the short about "Bossa nova Rhythmic Language You MUST KNOW!" (   • Bossa Nova Rhythmic Language You MUST KNOW...  ), I have decided to release the FULL cut of this special performance of "Desafinado".

"Desafinado" is my personal favorite Antonio Carlos Jobim tune, which I also recorded on my soon to be released solo piano album Cactus Sessions (stay tuned!). Desafinado in Portuguese means "out of tune/out of key". Jobim wrote this tune as a response to the critics who early in the Bossa Nova movement said that his Bossa Nova tunes as merely meant for bad singers who sing out of tune/out of key.

You can hear Jobim's nod at the critics immediately in the second bar with many harmonic surprises like the B over the F7#11 to almost make it seem "out of tune". There are several examples of harmonic richness in this tune and Jobim showed the critics how Bossa Novas can be much more with this artistic masterpiece.

Luther also suggested we do these authentic Brazilian rhythmic figure in the last A section. It's a 2 bar comping pattern played on: 2, 4, 2, &of3, &of4. We keep this little figure going throughout the solo section as well which adds a nice touch to this beautiful Jobim tune. I hope you enjoy listening to our trio rendition of Jobim's "Desafinado".
