00:01 (TC: 01.00.01): A Catholic Papal Mass performed by Pope John Paul II at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, 1987. The Pope is perched on a large stage in the middle of the arena. Young children in pairs step up to the Pope and he takes each child and kisses them and appears to give them his blessing. Narration by Father Milton Walsh of the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
01:07 (TC: 01.01.07): A woman holding a mic, sings solo in Latin as the ceremony goes on.
01:36 (TC: 01.01.36): WS of the stadium, the stage where the Pope sits amidst the crowd. Shot of Pope John Paul seated on the stage. Narrator explains what the Pope and Bishops are wearing.
01:59 (TC: 01.01.59): A procession of young children walking down steps and into the stadium
02:18 (TC: 01.02.18): Bishops pouring wine into the several chalices made especially for the Pope. Narration by Fr. James Aylward.
02:41 (TC: 01.02.41): CU Pop John Paul II as he watches the preparations for Mass at Candlestick Park.
03:10 (TC: 01.03.10): Pope approaches the alter to begin the ceremony of the papal mass.
03:37 (TC: 01.03.37): WS the specially made walnut alter with the special chalices lined up. Pope approaches and Mass starts. With unseen narration giving details of the alter , the chalices, and details of the mass.
05:54 (TC: 01.05.54): CU's of the Pope blessing the chalices (with incense) and everything around the alter as a ritual of the mass.
07:18 (TC: 01.07.18): The Pope washes his hands during the ceremony.
07:45 (TC: 01.07.45): WS the stage and alter. A Deacon blesses the crowd with incense.
08:00 (TC: 01.08.01): Various CU's of Pope John Paul II at the alter as he says the mass in English, he prays and the audience answers.
09:49 (TC: 01.09.49): Shots of the general audience standing and group of Deacons, praying with the Pope. And additional shots of the Pope giving the Mass.
14:09 (TC: 01.14.09): CU Pope John Paul II at Candlestick Park holds up the Host and turns so all of the crowd may see. He takes a deep bow.
16:11 (TC: 01.16.11): The Assembly now sings "Christ has Died, Christ has Risen, Christ will Come Again". Shots of the choir.
16:36 (TC: 01.16.36): Slow pan Candlestick Park.
17:14 (TC: 01.17.14): CU Pope John Paul II at the alter. Holy Communion prayers by the one of the Archbishop's and preparations.
19:31 (TC: 01.19.31): CU Pope John Paul holds the chalice and prays (in English), people respond "Amen". WSs of the crowd, the orchestra and choir.
22:43 (TC: 01.22.43): CU Pope John Paul hands raised as he prays. With unseen narration. Audience replies.
23:22 (TC: 01.23.22): Audience giving each other a sign of peace. They turn and shake hands with each other.
23:59 (TC: 01.23.59): WS of the audience with a procession of (1,000) people in the bkgd wearing white robes - they will be administering Holy Communion to 70,000 people at Candlestick Park.
24:28 (TC: 01.24.28): Ws of the alter and the Communion administers lining up on the alter to assist with Communion. Narration by Father Walsh.
25:12 (TC: 01.25.12): Tilt down - folks in the audience receiving Communion.
26:35 (TC: 01.26.35): A priest giving Communion to members of the audience. Tilt down on the procession of folk including lay people who will give Communion.
27:17 (TC: 01.27.17): Orchestra leader wearing a white robe conducts the orchestra
27:30 (TC: 01.27.30): Pope John Paul holds the Host and prays before he receives Communion (given to himself). Narrator unseen states the Pope will be giving Communion to about 100 people who were chosen by lottery from each Parish.
28:00 (TC: 01.28.00): WS the orchestra.
28:07 (TC: 01.28.07): People lined up to receive Holy Communion given by the Pope.
28:43 (TC: 01.28.43): The Pope drinks from the Chalice. He gives Holy Communion to the Archbishops on the alter who assisted him with the mass.
29:59 (TC: 01.29.59): A priest hands out Holy Communion to members of the audience.
31:46 (TC: 01.31.46): The Pope leaving the alter to give Holy Communion to the chosen people who wait at the steps below the alter. People receive Holy Communion by the Pope one by one including two young women in wheelchairs.. Narration by Fr. Walsh and Fr. Aylward.
41:10 (TC: 01.41.10): Communion proceeding is done, Pope takes a bow and goes back to his chair at the alter.
42:02 (TC: 01.42.02): Male and female vocal leaders, Cantors for the mass, lead the song with their arms outstretched.
42:26 (TC: 01.42.26): The Pope sitting in his chair is offered a bowl by alter boys to clean his hands. They pour water over his hands.
43:47 (TC: 01.43.47): WS the alter., the Pope in his chair. Narrator points out the green banners around the stage that were made by the separate parishes to denote their own ministries, later to be flown from the lamp posts in the square at St. Mary's.
