The Ghiordes Knot is a classic cut pile weaving technique that has been used for centuries in the weaving of rugs. This short video shows how to construct the Ghiordes Knot and describes a few of the possibilities and pitfalls of the technique.
It is a great way to add texture to our handwovens, and can be used in so many ways and for many applications apart from just the weaving of rugs.
I wove my sample in cotton which worked every bit as well as wool and found that smaller groups of warp threads included in the knot worked better than larger groups.
Suddenly my head is swimming with possibilities for this fascinating technique
