In this video, I discuss at length the Quranic teachings on modesty as found in Surah Al-Noor. I reflect on how these verses have been interpreted especially in the matter of the hijab and veiling of women. A few slides are included to aid with the linguistic analysis of these verses and the last slide includes references to some of the source material I have consulted. In this video I have also referred to Leena El-Ali’s excellent work titled ‘No Truth Without Beauty – God, the Qur’an, and Women’s Rights’.
