This video is a continuation of Part One in the exploration of schooling as an example of how institutionalized racism (itself an outcome of the intersection of race and class as a dimension of the intersectionality of oppression) helps to undermine equality of opportunity for social mobility for Black people and other people of color. The focus in this video is the malicious role of the U.S. Supreme Court—in its current incarnation as a super-conservative court—in the use of schooling as one more avenue for undermining U.S. democracy writ large; specifically, in this instance, via the assault on affirmative action for the historically marginalized and oppressed. Additionally, the insidious part being played in this effort by the longest serving justice of the Court, a Black person by the name of Clarence Thomas (proving in a dramatic way that a person’s skin color does not tell you everything about the person), is also covered in this video.
