My second trip to this beautiful island this year.
Öland is Sweden's second largest island and smallest province. Öland is located in the Baltic Sea east of Småland, from which it is separated by the Kalmar Strait. Since 1972, the island has been connected to the mainland by the Öland Bridge, which is Sweden's longest bridge, counting bridge sections that are within the country's borders.[b]
Southern Öland is dominated by the steppe-like and treeless plain of Stora Alvaret, approximately ten kilometers wide. It has been included in the World Heritage Site Southern Öland's Cultivated Landscape since the turn of the millennium.
