Brazilian Indians, derived from the Tupi. It means red person, colored. The term was first used in 1775 by an indigenous group of the Amazon region to refer to Europeans who were red because they were sunburned or had already used a type of dye. The names were later extended to all settlers whose skin was different from that of the local indigenous people. In addition, the indigenous people of Brazil are not considered neither black nor white; they are native and therefore also called colored, as described in Article II of Law 11,645 / 2008
