I cycled from Vienne in France down to Girona in Spain in April 2024.
Typical middle-age crisis? You know, you have two lifes: the second one starts when you realise you actually live only onces...
So I packed my e-bike and planned a 10-12 day tour with Komoot. Next time I will take my normal travel bike. I will be slower but will not have to worry about electricity supply.
I stayed overnight in hotels, wanted to do some camping but thought that it might be too cold and I was not wrong. While the sun shinned most of the time, temperatures were low and the cold wind was strongly blowing. So no regret.
From Vienne to Sète I took the ViaRhôna at the exception of a couple of days where I diverted a bit.
From Sète onwards I followed the EV8 but not fully since I had little time to go through Bézier and Narbonne. I also skipped Port-La-Nouvelle to Argelès andook the train to Perpignan and cycled from there. That part of the coast looked too touristic to me.
Then I crossed the Spanish border through the Col de Banyuls (this one is a beast) and came to Girona in two steps, after a stop at l'Escala.
I met with my colleagues in Girona and then I returned to Banyuls where I spent a final night before taking the train back home. Regional trains in France (TER) are great but they may be packed which was a bit of a struggle with the bike.
I can only recommend you to go for a multiple day cycling ride, even on your own. Just enjoy the beauty of the world and particularly of this part of France & Spain.
