The 1915 book, Mary at the Farm, records various Pennsylvania German (Dutch) recipes that are wonderful to make today. This recipe is a modern rendition of that recipe.
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Total Cooking Time: Approximately 25-30 minutes
My Recipe (adapted from the original 1915 recipe)
Ingredients
(For Apples)
4 large apples ( I like to use Crimson Gold)
Apples are pared, cored, and sliced
1/3 cup of sugar (I use brown sugar) - adjust the amount to your sweetness preference
1 tablespoon of butter
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of vanilla
(For Dumplings)
1 cup of all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
Pinch of salt
3/4 cup of milk
