Scientific Name: Synchiropus splendidus
Range: western Pacific from southern Japan to northern Australia
Habitat: coral reefs
Size: average 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) but can get longer
Diet: small crustaceans such as copepods
Threats: eaten by other fish as babies but adults are protected by obnoxious mucus
Lifespan: 10+ years (in the wild! Captive individuals rarely live past two years)
