Mayor Tiffany Henyard of Dolton, Illinois, is facing corruption accusations and an FBI probe due to mounting evidence indicating misconduct and misuse of office.
The investigation follows the decision by the Illinois Attorney General to shut down Henyard’s charity on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
Henyard is accused of allegedly spending taxpayer's money on extravagant trips and spending $US1 million on police detail, which she uses to retaliate against her enemies.
Lawrence Gardener came forward and spoke to the FBI after the mayor allegedly shut down his trucking business.
He believes this is because he refused to renew a $US3,500 contribution to her party.
“I made the payment. Then every year, she started coming and required the same thing, and we had a problem about that,” he said.
The small village of Dolton, which has roughly 20,000 residents, is now $US5 million in debt.
