This is the original version of Little Red Riding Hood as written by Charles Perrault in the 17th century—dark, direct, and without a happy ending. Innocent and trusting, the girl ignores her mother’s warning and speaks to a cunning wolf who easily deceives her. After reaching the grandmother’s house, the wolf devours her and later Little Red Riding Hood as well.
Perrault ends the tale with a clear moral aimed at young girls: beware of “wolves,” those charming but dangerous strangers.
