In this video, we troubleshoot and repair a Baxi Combi/System boiler PCB showing fault code 385.
Although there are no visible signs of damage or faulty components on the board, this issue is often caused by aging input capacitors in the SMPS (switched-mode power supply) section. These components lose their effectiveness over time, leading to voltage instability and triggering fault code 385.
Repairs Include:
• Replacing the VIPer22A power IC
• Input capacitor: 400V 4.7µF
• Power IC supply capacitor: 35V 4.7µF
• Post-transformer capacitor: 35V 1000µF
• Additional preventive replacement: 400V 1µF capacitor near the ignition transformer — known to cause irregular gas valve behaviour and unstable ignition pulses when degraded
After the repair, the board is tested under realistic conditions using a simulation panel to ensure reliability.
